Flocks of Long-tailed Chickadees break up in spring, when the breeding season begins. Pairs begin with serious construction work. A nest can take up to 3 weeks to build and not without reason; we are talking about competition nests with over 1500 feathers, moss, hair, spider webs and lichen camouflage. Most of these nests are destroyed by predators before the eggs hatch, but the long-tailed tits will then help another pair to feed and raise their chicks.
